Massican, Sauvignon Blanc
Up until recently, Dan Petroski had a very demanding “day job” crafting the powerful, critically beloved Cabernets at Napa’s historic Larkmead winery, but now he’s focused solely on his acclaimed “solo” project, Massican. It is billed as the only white wine-focused operation in the Napa Valley, producing about 3,000 cases across four bottlings. At around 1,000 cases, this laser-focused, citrusy Sauvignon Blanc is the second-largest label in the Massican lineup, featuring 100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from Napa’s Juliana Vineyard—a site that was initially planted to supply Robert Mondavi’s landmark “Fumé Blanc” bottling. This is a racy, mineral style, reminiscent of bottlings from Italy’s Friuli and Alto Adige regions.
