Altesino, Brunello di Montalcino “Montosoli” Magnum
Considered one of the first crus of Italy, Altesino’s single-vineyard “Montosoli” sits high above the Altesino estate where ancient limestone soils with a 360-degree exposure combine to yield a Brunello of exceptional style and elegance. One of the most sought-after collectibles from Montalcino. As with many 2015s, the “Montosoli” is extremely approachable after an hour decant. Seductive and plush with plenty of cellar life especially when you factor in the magnum format. We secured the last of the magnums in the country direct from the importer. Provenance is A++. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better price out there for these rare formats!
In the glass, the wine performs like a seamless arietta offering refinement, purity, and chiseled structure at the core. Aromas of morello cherry, raspberry, and licorice jump from the glass with hints of violets and tar. Long and mineral-driven on the mid-palate with tannins that have become more integrated and finer with a few extra years of being in the bottle. This will not disappoint Brunelli aficionados.
