Champagne Jacquesson, “Terres Rouges” Blanc de Noirs
Because we only received eight bottles of the 2012, I made the unfortunate and reluctant decision to not burn one on myself. It was one of the harder choices of my career…
Jacquesson’s 2012 “Terres Rouges” Blanc de Noirs aged one year longer on lees than the 2013, and it was disgorged without dosage in February of 2021. Though I am unable to lend my own tasting notes, I trust the word of Champagne guru Tyson Stelzer—one of the few who’ve had the fortune of tasting it—and here’s what he had to say:
“This vineyard transcends its humble terroir of Dizy in profound chalk minerality, which permeates the palate with remarkable distinction, opening into a breathtaking red cherry purity of exceptional line and length. I have long admired Terres Rouges as a powerfully distinctive rosé and had always wondered at Jean-Hervé Chiquet’s suggestion that this terroir would sit better as a white. Now, I understand.”
